Abstract

Since the early 1990’s India has taken significant steps toward a market-oriented economy. A management culture, whose roots can be traced to the multicultural features of the Indian society, had an active role in achieving this goal. This paper is aimed to explore how deeply the roots of the Indian modern philosophy of management are a result of the Hindu values and the influence they still exert in India today. The aim of this study is to emphasize the need to create a new understanding and innovative way of management to include the cultural differences of a multi-polar world, that are in accordance with the recommendations of UN and European Council. A broad analysis of the world literature about the topic was accomplished. The main finding was that Hindu values permeate the Indian management style, exerting a strong impact. The Indian style of management and India’s ancient culture are and will continue to be some of the most important assets of the country in the near future. The Indian capacity of doing things with limited resources, thinking out of the box, and the ability of managing different cultures will be important in a multi-polar and multi-cultural world and could represent a pattern to follow. India could become one of the four largest powers in the world in the next decades, gaining a stronger position in the Asian and global geopolitical scenarios. One of the strongest points of India is being on the verge of becoming a trendsetter in different fields such as culture and management style which could make India a dynamic and proactive player on the world stage.
